JAMES H. BECHTEL AWARD WINNERS

James Bechtel was the quarterback of Coach Rute's 1952 Easton High team, which had a 7-2-1 record.  On Thanksgiving Day before 18,000 fans, with the score tied at 7-7 and 18 seconds to go, James Bechtel threw a touchdown pass to win the game.  Bechtel lettered in baseball and basketball, as well as football.

Graduating from Easton in 1953, he was accepted at Lafayette College and Rutgers University, but graduated from St. Michael's College in Vermont.  James joined the Navy and became a Naval Aviator.  He met his death while he was on an air refueling mission and his play exploded in mid air.

The James Bechtel Award is given yearly by the Alumni Varsity "E" Club to the football player selected by the Coaching Staff.
